What to do? Maybe write a psalm…

Psalm 3:3-4 – But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.

This psalm is about how David reacted when his son Absalom was working to not only de-throne David, but also to kill him. David’s reaction – he wrote a psalm!

This was a very scary and stressful time! We have all had scary and stressful times. When I was in a situation not nearly as life threatening as David was in, I didn’t think to stop and write a psalm. My reaction would have been to obsess and try to figure out what to do by myself, even though, historically, this has not worked well for me.

But David had great faith. The psalm says – “But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.”

Friends, let’s always remember that God has our back, and our front, and our sides… all we have to do is call, and he will answer!

And for our prayer today, verses 7 and 8 – “Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people”.
