The Holy Spirit Within Us

1.17.2022

With the holidays over, the Christmas tree down and the decorations put away, we begin to venture out into the new year with optimism and hope. We ask our Father in Heaven to bring us relief from the weariness that we have all suffered, for the last two years, coping with this dreaded virus. We look to Him to not only give us strength, but also patience and the ability to endure.

We look for signs from God, we listen to hear His answers to our prayers, often to no avail, for we look in the wrong places and hear what we want to hear, not what we need to hear.

1 Corinthians 3:16 says “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”

As children of God, we are so fortunate, for the Spirit of the Lord lives within us, as Jesus promised in John 14:17 “– But you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”

We have to look inside ourselves in order to see or understand God’s vision. We have to listen to our hearts, for that is the Holy Spirit within us, speaking to us. When we do that, we see and we hear and are rewarded with a sense of relief, for we realize that we have found the truth.

God and God’s love for us never fails. It is we who fail God, but God understands for He knows how imperfect we are and is always ready to help us recover from our failures. The Holy Spirit is always with us. When we stumble, the Holy Spirit picks us up and if necessary, will carry us through our troubles no matter what they may be.

Dear God, You are always with us but so often we fail to recognize Your presence. Give us the patience to wait on Your answers to our prayers, knowing that You know when the time is right to answer. Teach us to listen for You through the Holy Spirit within us. Thank you for always being there when we fall (or fail) and giving us the courage and perseverance to get up and start again.

May the Peace of Christ be with you all now and throughout the coming year!

Amen, Jim Kerner
