Weekly Devotional by Morgan Burns

“Over the last few months, I have found myself consumed with anxiety and worry. I worry about the health of my friends and family. I worry about the changing world. I worry about what the future will look like if the pandemic continues. I worry; and all of this worry doesn’t seem to go away. I remember sitting in my bedroom one night, after a long day and thinking about how all I want is peace. Then I remembered a bible verse, John 14:27. It reads “I am leaving you with a gift- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled and afraid.” I read that passage over and over and each time I could feel the heavyweight of all my worrying slowly fall off my shoulders.

The peace I was looking for may not be the kind of peace that the world can offer me right now. But God can. He has blessed me with a peace that the world cannot give me. It can be hard to not let anxiety and worry about tomorrow consume us. But as long as we keep our eyes fixed on God, we can be reminded of the incredible peace of mind and heart he can and will provide.

Here is a short prayer:

Heavenly Father, you have given me a gift greater than one I will ever receive.

You have given me a type of peace that I have never had before. I thank you, Lord.

While I may find myself surrounded by anxiety and worry, You wrap me up with a blanket of peace and protect me.

I pray others find the amazing peace

You have to offer and that I continue to keep my eyes fixed on You during a time of uncertainty.

Amen.”
