Weekly Devotional by Diana Golden

“Matthew 7:12 states “Do to others what you want them to do to you. This is the meaning of the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets.” This is known as the Golden Rule and it means to treat others as you would like to be treated. This is my favorite rule since my last name is Golden! This rule inspires us to treat others with love and empathy.

But, we often forget or ignore this rule. We attempt to impose onto others our judgements and biases. Most of us try to prove our opinions are right and others are wrong.

So many times we only show love to those people that show us love, or agree with our points of view. True Godly love means to love others, including our enemies, without an expectation of getting anything in return (please read Luke 6:31-36). Every one of us is capable of sin, so we should show love and empathy to each other. Scripture guides us to try and be more like God – to show the same mercy to others that the Lord continually shows us.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, Every one of us are experiencing our own private struggles. Help me to withhold judgement and strive to show others the mercy of Your love, through my words and actions.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
