The Sweetness of Friendship

Stresses from the day tend to follow me home and stay in the front of my mind when I go to bed. I don’t always know how to let go of the stress in my life and at times, it causes me physical and emotional pain. It can be easy to get consumed by the amount of stress I carry on my shoulders and at times, I feel alone.

It wasn’t until I was talking with a close friend recently that made me realize how I am never alone. Relating the different stresses we had to deal with and just talking about our lives helped me let go of the stress and worry I bottled up inside me.

Proverbs 27:9 perfectly described how I felt. It reads, “ the heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.” Friends are a gift from God. They are placed in our lives to help us when we need counsel. They lift us up when we are feeling consumed by the stress and worry in the world around us, and are there to cheer us on as we fight to overcome our struggles.

I have always looked for big blessings when it comes to gifts from God. But one of the greatest gifts, and the sweetest gifts, He has blessed me with is the gift of strong friendships. God has given me the sweetest friendships to remind me that even when I feel alone and surrounded by negative stresses and worry, I am never truly alone.

Dear God,

You remind me every day how much you love and care for me.

While I am not able to always see You, You bring friends in my life to help me see through the darkness.

You have blessed me with the sweetest friendships that make me a stronger person.

No matter where I am or what I am dealing with, I know that with the friends You have blessed me with, I am able to get through any hardships life may present.

Amen.
