JOY IN THE JOURNEY! Advent 2020 Devotional 3

December 3, 2020
Isaiah 11:1-10

LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot – yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root. And the Spirit of the LORD will rest on him.. Isaiah 11:1-2

And so the season of Advent begins; not with carols and bells and shepherds and stars, but with a promise from the prophet that God is about to do an amazing new thing that will stand this old world on its head. Hope will replace despair, justice and mercy will defeat prejudice and hatred. What a glorious promise! And how we need to hear those words today. The blaring voices of political, social and ecclesiastical scandals seem to drown out the Christmas message of peace, joy, generosity, forgiveness and love. The world can seem dark, but Jesus came to bring light and life into the darkness. In this precious season of waiting and preparation, we remember that Jesus is light and life itself. Let us wait with anticipation and joy!

Prayer
Lord, help us to savor this special time as we anticipate the joy ahead. We wait for you, Jesus. Amen.
