JOY IN THE JOURNEY! Advent 2020 Devotional 14

Luke 2:6-7

THE BIRTH
All expectant parents want their baby to be born under the best conditions possible. It has been common in recent years to have a “birthing plan,” especially for a firstborn. This plan might include where and how the baby will be delivered, who can be present for the delivery, how the birth is recorded and what blankets or other clothing the baby will wear after birth. Parents often feel less anxiety and more in control by making a plan when they are uncertain about what the delivery will be like.

Mary and Joseph did not plan the conception or birth of Jesus because God did, and told Mary about HIS plan. Mary had great faith that God would deliver their child as HE promised. She was not fearful of the humble circumstances surrounding the birth of their baby.

Prayer
God, our Father, we thank you for the gift of your son, Jesus. We know that we are all your children. We pray for the same strong faith that Mary had in You, and know that You are the Master Planner of our life and circumstances. We know that You always keep your promises if we believe in Your plans. Amen
