Sharing God’s Love

For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.

1 John 2:8b

Long ago, people waited patiently for the promised Messiah.  I wait now with excited anticipation to celebrate the Messiah’s birthday.  Part of my Advent preparation is choosing presents for others and decorating our home. I have uncovered lost treasures beneath the couch (usually cat toys) while making room for a tree, nativity scene, and various decorations.

It’s easy to get caught up in the tinsel and glitter of the season.  We live in darkness when we lose sight of what is of real value by allowing things to distract us from God and His purpose for us.  We need to ask God to lift the darkness, reveal our true motives, and show us how we can come fully into His light.

God is always ready to reveal His gifts to us.  By putting God first, we can see and live in the true light: the love and grace of God.  By keeping Him first, we are able to unwrap His gifts to us and use them to bless and serve others with His loving light.  Sharing God’s love is the best gift we can give!

Prayer

God of hope, love, and grace, thank You for always being here, to accept us, love us, and shine Your light in our lives. Help us to keep You first in our hearts and to share our gifts to bless others.  Guide us to reflect Your light of love and hope and thus dispel darkness.  May we joyfully and honorably celebrate the birth of your son, Jesus the Christ.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
