Prophecy

These will be his royal titles:  Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  His ever expanding, peaceful government will never end.

Isaiah 9:6b-7a

These beautiful, prophetic words from Isaiah 9:6 tell of the coming of Jesus. At the time Isaiah wrote these words, Israel felt powerless and they were afraid of the rulers to their north (Assyria). The people of Israel were afraid as they didn’t know if God was for or against them, as their enemies seemed to grow in numbers and strength. These words from Isaiah gave the people hope.

Isaiah’s prophecy of the Messiah was seen then and now as a bright light coming out of the darkness, which would usher in an era of light, joy and peace. The Messiah is a gift from God – His most cherished gift, His Son. God gave His Son to be a sacrifice for the sins of the world. In Him dwells all the fullness of God in human form.

Prayer

Dear Father, thank you for sending Your most precious gift, Your Son, to enlighten the world. I am filled with wonder and praise that your love for us is so great that you sent the Messiah to save us from our sins. The depth of this love is truly beyond all understanding.  In Jesus name,

Amen
