Joy

The Savior–yes, the Messiah, the Lord–has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the city of David!  You will find a baby lying in a manger, wrapped snugly in strips of cloth!

Luke 2:11-12

Is there anything more exciting than the birth of a new baby? The parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends are all filled with such joy that this miracle brings. There is a sense of hope for the future of this tiny person, and for the shared experiences they might have together.

Can you imagine the excitement that Jesus birth brought? The Savior, the Messiah, the Lord – wow! Talk about having hope for the future! How does the mere mortal reconcile the greatness of Jesus’ birth to the simplicity of the place of birth – in a stable? And the ordinary-ness of Jesus wrapped snugly in strips of cloth?

Advent reminds us of what is important. Think simple and ordinary. Think warm and snuggly. Think of excitement, joy, and hope for the future. Think about Jesus … and be grateful.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for giving us the greatest gift – Your son. And Lord, during this Advent season, help us to stay focused on what really is important. In Jesus name we pray,

Amen
