JOY IN THE JOURNEY! Advent 2020 Devotional 2

December 2, 2020
Isaiah 9:2-7

Especially note: Isaiah 9:2 “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: (KJV) and Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”. (KJV)

CHRIST THE LIGHT / CHRIST THE PRINCE OF PEACE

I have always loved Christmas. Who doesn’t? In recent years, it has occurred to me that I like Advent even more. I love all the “stuff” that leads up to the actual day we celebrate the birth of Christ, including:

  • holiday shopping, songs, movies and concerts
  • festive gatherings and church services
  • oohing-and-aahing at Christmas lights
  • reading holiday stories and poems

Among my favorite things? The lights over our church entrance proclaiming “Christ is the Light” (verse 2). Listening to Handel’s Messiah (verse 6). Maya Angelou’s Christmas poem titled “Amazing Peace” (copyright 2005 by Maya Angelou).

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your son, Jesus, and for this joyous time of year where we celebrate His birth. May the light of Christ shine through us to others now and all year long. I pray for peace on Earth, and let it begin with me. Amen.

Wishing you an Amazing Advent and an Amazing Peace!
