DESCRIPTION:Caravan is what we call our summer mission trip. This is open to any youth who are entering 9th grade. SUMMARY:Downtown Health Fair is free to all!
DESCRIPTION:A “Heart in the City” Health & Fun Fair will be  taking place in the lower level of the church  on Wednesday\, July 31st in the afternoon.  The event is free to all and will include blood pressure\, glucose\, basic dental\, vision and hearing screenings for adults and children\, height and weight checks\, HIV testing\, and car seat safety checks – all provided at no charge.    The Calhoun County Public Health Department will be offering “Getting Ready for School” immunizations.  Sports physicals will be available for students up to age 13.  And there will be MORE. \nAND there’s also going to be lots of fun and games with prizes for all ages in the parking area behind the church.  ALSO there will be sno-cones\, healthy snacks\, hot dogs and popcorn to enjoy. \nHealth\, safety and human service agencies from all over Battle Creek will  be coming together on this day for the event including Bronson Health System\, Battle Creek Police Department\, Calhoun County Public Health Department\, Early Childhood Connections\, CityLinC\, The Haven Women and Men’s Life Recovery Program; Grace Health\, and S.A.F.E. Place.  Some of the many others that are making this Health & Fun Fair possible are Charitable Union; Calhoun Intermediate School District; Franklin Food Pantry; The Salvation Army Soup Kitchen;  Northeast Food Pantry; Farley\, Estes and Dowdle Funeral Home; Boy Scout Troop #309; Luke 10 volunteers; Northeast Neighborhood Planning Council\,  and Willard Library. \nThis day is free to all ages and all are welcome! \n

SUMMARY:Come help Stuff-A-Bus!
DESCRIPTION:What is it?  During this annual event\, school supplies and backpacks are collected from donation bins set up throughout the community.  The supplies are  sorted  and packed into backpacks and delivered to local schools to be distributed to children who need them.   We are excited  that First Presbyterian will again provide the backpacks and be the site for the donated supplies to be sorted and packed! \nCome join us and other volunteers from throughout the community to work together so that area students can begin their school year with the supplies they need to be ready to learn. \nHow you can help: \n\nDonate school supplies – These can be left in the Parlor in the mission corner through July 31st.  Some items typically needed are pencils\, pencil boxes\, glue sticks\, crayons\, erasers\, scissors\, rulers.\nHelp sort the supplies – we will be sorting at the First Pres Youth Center.\nProvide snacks for  volunteers – As we host volunteers from both our congregation and from our community\, we would like to provide light refreshments while they are working.\nPack the backpacks – August 1st through 5th.   Various dates and time slots will be available.\n\nTo sign up\, please contact Abby or Janelle\, CityLinC Stuff-A-Bus Coordinators at 269.969.9181 or Dena Haas at 269.268.0064. \nMany hands make light work. SUMMARY:Second Mile Center Kids to Visit!
DESCRIPTION:The Second Mile Center was founded by the Presbyterian Women of Detroit in 2006. It is a Christ-centered community program\, shining brightly in one of the most challenging areas of Detroit.  They do a lot for inner city kids – providing a place of hope where they are fed and kept safe. \nFirst Pres has been involved with Second Mile Center for eight years now.  Again this year\, we have the pleasure of hosting a group of 12 kids from the Center for a weekend Field Trip to Battle Creek this May 3-5. They will sleep over at our Retreat Center\, take a trip to MOO-ville\,  attempt an Escape Room in our  Youth Center and join us for Youth Sunday worship.  They may even present us with one of their Sign Mime performances. \nThese kids had to earn the opportunity to come on this outing.  Many have never been out of Detroit.  They are as excited to come as we are to host them. \nVolunteer sign-up for activities and food are now being accepted.  Contact Jean Parker.  There will also be a Paper Products drive before their visit so we can stock them up with goods to take back to the Center. \nTo learn more about Second Mile Center of Detroit\, visit their website here. \n
