Stewardship Series: Faith & Treasure, Matthew 6

November 5, 2017

In the Sermon on the Mount we see that Jesus is looking at the heart. He cares about the hearts of God’s people. Jesus talks about money and treasure because he knows that they affect our hearts. He knows money stresses our relationships. Money causes division in and among people. Money and its pursuit can be all-consuming and burdensome. Those who have lost jobs or find money hard to find will tell you that it is not just a financial issue but an emotional and spiritual one. Jesus talks about money because he cares about our hearts.
For the month of November, we will look at the many ways that our treasure (time, energy, money) affects our spiritual and emotional lives. Join us in worship starting November 5 as we begin our new series called Faith and Treasure. We will explore Matthew 6 and Jesus’ teachings on money, giving, worry, and more.
On November 12 we will have the opportunity to express how we may wish to offer our time, talents, and spiritual gifts in service to the Lord. Those who have not yet completed the annual Time and Talent survey will be given some time on this Sunday to do so.
At the conclusion of this series we will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of our financial offerings to God through our church in the coming year. We will dedicate these commitments in the worship service on Celebration Sunday (the same day as our Celebration Luncheon) November 19, 2017.
