Sunday Mornings at 10:15 a.m.
September - May
The founders of the Reformed faith tradition placed great emphasis on
the importance of education for all ages because they were convinced
that Christians should know what they believed and why they believed it.
What a wonderful heritage of scholarship and passion for knowledge is
ours as Presbyterians! With that in mind, First Presbyterian Church
encourages adults as well as youth and children to be engaged in the
study of Scripture and the business of Christ-like living in a very
intentional way.
Adult Christian Education
Three adult study options are offered during the 10:15 a.m.
education hour. Topics covered range from basic to advanced
Bible study to classes on faith issues, prayer, family relationships,
Christian living and parenting. Newcomers are always warmly
welcomed to any of these dynamic Sunday morning groups.
Studies:
Making the Bible Your Own
Family Matters: If you enjoy reading and discussing
popular books with a Christian message, this lively, interactive book
study is for you. Grab a cup of coffee and join the conversation
in the Library each Sunday. Discussion leadership is shared by
group members.
Faith Quest
Youth Christian Education
Mid and Senior High Classes
Mid and Sr. High students meet each week in the Youth Center at 15
Frelinghuysen at 10:15 for Bible study, discussion and fellowship.
Confirmation Class
Confirmation preparation is open to youth 7th grade and above who want
to continue their growth as Christians and make a commitment to
membership at First Presbyterian Church. From November through May,
each confirmand works with a personal mentor who teaches and guides
the young person through the process of learning to know Jesus Christ
and becoming His disciple. Those who complete all course work are
received into membership in May.
Children's Christian Education
Childcare
Two well-equipped nursery areas located near the entry on the main
level, care for infants and toddlers during the 10:15 education hour
and the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. worship hours. Our Nursery Director
staffs and maintains these nurseries.
Three-year-olds (Beginners) use a lectionary based curriculum
during the 9:15 education hour and the "God Loves Me" Bible
storybooks. Follow-up play reinforces the lessons each
week. The classroom is located on the lower level.
PreK/Kindergarten class uses biblically based material written
from a Reformed/Presbyterian perspective. The morning schedule
includes worship, a Bible lesson and an activity to enhance understanding
of the Bible story. The class meets on the second level.
Elementary Children in grades 1-5 take part in D.O.C.K.
(Disciples of Christ's Kingdom) which is our Worship Rotation program.
The class area consists of several creative, kid-friendly workshops where the children learn Bible stories
through art, drama, cooking, computers, games, puppets, and music. Groups rotate to new workshops each week as they
learn God's word in ways that are relevant and exciting for
them. Classes meet in Fellowship Hall on the lower level.
