The
Chancel Choir is composed of 20-30 adult volunteers, rehearsing
two hours each week. The choir sings at Sunday worship services
each week, special services, and occasionally funerals and
weddings.
The
Handbell Choir is a group of 12 adults who enjoy the challenge and
peculiarities of handbell ringing. The Choir rings the Sunday
service prelude on occasion, in addition to accompanying the
choirs or the congregation. The group rehearses on a weekly basis.
Music
programs for youth are incorporated into the Youth Fellowship
program and the Sunday morning Children's Christian Education
program.
Special
music in the form of solos and small ensemble pieces is welcome
any time. Many of our members have musical talent beyond the
offerings of the church ensembles and wish to add to the worship
service on occasion. Special music is also a regular feature
during our summer worship services while the choirs recess for the
months of June, July, and August. Please contact the Music
Director if you are interested in any aspect of the Special Music
program.
First Church's pipe organ was completely
rebuilt in 1994 by Dobson Pipe Organ Builders. Several sets of
original pipes were repaired and new pipes were designed to blend
with the existing pipework and to expand the tonal resources
available. All pipes were revoiced and regulated to speak on new
windchests. The console is new. There are three manuals and pedal,
fifty-five stops and sixty ranks.
The Handbell Choir presents its worship in
music with Malmark Handbells (five octaves).
The piano in the sanctuary is a Mason &
Hamlin 7 foot grand piano.
